Our series of pop up food events are in collaboration with super talented local chef Sophie Hill. She is widely experienced but is informed deeply by the time she spent working with Theo Randall at The Intercontinental and at the iconic River Cafe. Her food is made with love and completely from scratch using beautiful fresh ingredients. 

Our lunches cost £35 per head and this includes all 4 courses and an aperitivo.

Little ones are welcome and there will be delicious extra's for children on the table. The price for under 12s is £3.50 per child.

On the 3rd Saturday of every month we host a traditional english Folk session. It is a casual affair and anyone who wants to join just has to turn up at around 3pm with their instrument. 

The cafe is open as usual from 12.00 until 6.00 so come and enjoy our lovely space, have lunch and listen to some music.

Art Balaayo: Letters to yourself workshop.

Letters to yourself will be led by Nasreen Shaikh Jamal Al-Lail, a co founder of the Variant Space Collective. Find out more about Nasreen and Variant Space here

The workshop is open to all and will be centred around the self and language. These two themes are intimately connected and form the core of our reality.

The workshop will involve some arts based activities (though you don't need to be an artist to get involved) and some letter writing and discussion.

Come and enjoy our lovely space and have lunch. This week you can also take a look at the  exhibition we are showing in the main space - Art Balaayo: we are highlighting the work of Somali artists to open, challenge and explore unspoken narratives.

The cafe is open both Saturday and Sunday this week and although there won't be seating inside there will be plenty outside and takeaway options are available.

We sell freshly baked loaves of bread, home made Quiches, Salad, cheese toasties with extras like gruyere and truffle if you like, or gherkin and mustard.

Occasionally we will put on live music at the cafe, we will list this in our events (though sometimes it happens spontaneously), we have a folk session on the 3rd Saturday of every month and we have a regular DJ, Pete who plays us treats from his very eclectic collection.

Art Balaayo exhibition

Curated by artist Zeinab Saleh and inspired by the artbalaayo podcast pioneered by Somali women in the UAE. The focus of the exhibition is to highlight the work of Somali artists and to open, challenge and explore unspoken narratives.

Showcasing photography, poetry, film, sculpture and digital media from Asiah Ali, Aisha Mohammed, Halima Salah, Kariima Ali, Nasra Abdullahi and Naima Hassan. 

The show will launch on Friday 5th May. Red Door Studios will be open from 6 - 10pm with live spoken word performance from Fatima Diriye and Aisha Mohammed. please see the event listing 'Art Balaayo Launch' on our what's on page for more details.

And then the show will be open as follows:

Saturday 6th/Sunday 7th May: 12.00 - 6.00pm

On Saturday 6th May Variant Space will be holding a workshop themed around ideas of the self and language. Please see the 'Letters to yourself' event listing on our what's on page for more details.

We are offering this beautiful 4 course lunch at £35 per head. The price for children under 12  is £3.50 per head, children's options are listed below. All courses are vegetarian apart from the Lamb. Please let us know when you book if you would like the vegetarian option for this course (baked Cannellini, Spinach, wild greens in homemade Filo pastry).
